Animal Health

Animal diseases and mortality have an important impact on the livestock sector. Diseases can reduce livestock productivity, and epidemics can lead to sector-wide trade disruptions, or threaten human health. In all cases, livestock health is intertwined with the economy, and efforts to eradicate disease and improve animal health are at the core of most livestock initiatives in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Good evidence on livestock health in LMICs is disparate and scarce, and more insights are needed on disease prevalence and production burdens,, the incidence of zoonotic diseases, the economic impacts of disease, and the costs and benefits of interventions. This data can inform interventions that sustainably increase productivity and address poverty and hunger.
